Atari Interactive has revealed more details about its Ataribox console. Atari’s new gaming console features a design inspired by their retro consoles like Atari 2600. Underneath this retro look, the Ataribox will be powered by a customized AMD processor with Radeon graphics.
Ataribox will run an ‘open’ Linux operating system with a custom interface and will allow gamers to play games from other platforms, too.
Atari suggests that their new gaming console “signals a return by Atari to creating its own hardware.” It seems that the console will work as a complete entertainment package as it will offer apps and access to streaming, social media, web browsing, music and more.
Ataribox will offer a full PC experience for your TV.
Ataribox will be launching with a catalog of classic Atari games while supporting current titles “from a range of studios.” The company is expected to reveal more specific details about these titles later.
Ataribox console will launch through an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign and is expected to be released by spring 2018. Depending on the configuration, its price will be between $249 to $299.
The company has been teasing its new console on a dedicated Ataribox Instagram account for a few weeks. A post from July suggests that there will be two different editions of Ataribox.
Since its initial announcement three months ago, more than 90,000 fans have registered on Ataribox website to receive more updates about the console.
