ASUS VivoBook F510UA Review: A Gorgeous Mid-range Laptop

Asus recently upgraded its ZenBook laptop lineup with 8th-generation Intel Core processors. Now it’s time for their popular VivoBook models to receive the latest Intel processors.

Asus VivoBook F510UA is one of those laptops that recently received updated hardware. With 8th-generation Intel Core i5 processor, huge storage, and gorgeous looks, this Asus VivoBook is a wonderful laptop in the mid-range segment.

Look and Feel

Manufacturers are now paying attention to the look and feel of their laptops. New laptops are getting slimmer, weighing less than ever, and are also carrying attractive looks. Asus is one of those companies that has come up with laptops with decent look and feel.

Asus VivoBook F510UA is a pleasure to look at. Its 0.3-inch ‘NanoEdge’ bezel, smooth Star Gray finish, and curved corners give this laptop a ‘premium’ touch. Thanks to its thin bezels, Asus has managed to fit the 15.6-inch WideView display into a 14-inch frame.

Tech Specs and Performance

Having received specs bump, Asus VivoBook F510UA carries the latest 8th-generation Intel Core i5-8250U 1.6GHz ‘Kaby Lake’ processor with Turbo Boost up to 3.4GHz. The processor does its job exceptionally well and handles CPU-hungry tasks without hiccups. The processor is easy on battery and heavy on performance – leaving absolutely nothing to complain about.

In addition to a fast processor, this VivoBook carries 8GB DDR4 RAM which is sufficient for almost every home and office tasks. For storage, Asus has packed a 1TB HDD. While a huge 1TB storage excites us, we really wish it was a 7200 RPM HDD instead of a 5400 RMP one. It could have improved the performance of this laptop a little more. But for most users, it shouldn’t mean too much difference.

The Intel Core i5-8250U processor features Intel HD Graphics 620 integrated graphics. Integrated graphics are getting better nowadays but are not yet able to replace dedicated graphics. For a quick comparison, Intel HD Graphics 620 can be considered as good as Nvidia GeForce 910M dedicated graphics.

That being said, VivoBook F510UA is able to produce some impressive graphics performance. The 15.6-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) display presents some vibrant colors and sharp imagery.

The pre-installed Windows 10 Home operating system goes along really well with this VivoBook. It boots up quickly, runs without lag, and leaves no performance-related issues.

Ports and Connectivity

While companies like Apple are racing ahead to remove as many ports as possible from their laptops, Asus VivoBook F510UA is equipped with enough ports.

It carries a USB 3.1 Gen 1 port with reversible USB Type-C connector, a USB 3.0 port, and two USB 2.0 ports. An HDMI port and an SD card reader are also present. Asus could really equip this laptop with more USB 3.0 ports instead of two USB 2.0 ports.

For wireless connections, this VivoBook is equipped with 802.11ac Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi shows no signs of interruptions and works as expected.
