Vyu360 -a Miami, Florida based startup is working on an add-on for smartphones. The accessory -called Vyu360, allows users to capture 360° videos and pictures by using their smartphone’s rear as well as front camera. The makers of Vyu360 are currently running a campaign on Kickstarter to raise fund for their project.
According to the Kickstarter page of this project and their official website, Vyu360 comes with a companion app for smartphones. This app will compile the captured media and make it easy to preview and share media across multiple social media platforms. “Vyu360 uses specially engineered panoramic optics that are far more advanced than traditional wide angle and fisheye lenses,” states the Kickstarter page of Vyu360.
This smartphone add-on will output 360-degree videos at 15fps with 1080p HD resolution with some older smartphones being limited to 720p HD output. It will also capture still images at the resolution of 2048 x 1024 pixels.
According to the project’s crowdfunding page on Kickstarter, the startup has designed and 3D printed all camera upgrades designs so far. The prototyping phase has also been finalized and they have begun working on tooling.
Once complete, the camera accessory will work with many iOS and Android smartphones including iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, Nexus 6, Nexus6P, Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge and more. The updated and complete list is available on the project’s Kickstarter page.
