As reported earlier and now announced officially by Microsoft, pre-orders for HoloLens Developer Edition are starting from today. Pre-ordering Developer Edition of HoloLens will cost $3000 and Microsoft will start shipping first wave from March 30th.
Announcing HoloLens Development Edition via a blog entry, Alex Kipman -the creator of HoloLens (an Kinect) said that since it was unveiled about a year ago, thousands of developers have experienced HoloLens first hand and have contributed their ideas. Alex further said that they have been focusing on connecting with developers and commercial customers to imagine our holographic future together.
Today represents a monumental step forward. This is the first step in our journey to consumers.
HoloLense, one of Microsoft’s most ambitious project, is a completely untethered and self-contained device. It enables holographic computing natively without requiring markers, external cameras, wires, phone or a PC.
HoloLens Tech Specs
HoloLens itself is a complete Windows 10 system and uses a custom-built Microsoft Holographic Processing Unit (HPU) and an Intel 32-bit processor for its processing.
Other HoloLens specs include 2GB RAM, 64GB flas storage, 4 microphones, built-in speakers, 3.5mm audio-jack, 2MP HD camera, 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1. HoloLens has been designed for optimal holographic density of 2.5K radiants to achieve great holographic experience.
HoloLens has built-in cameras which enable recording mixed reality captures (MRC) — HD pictures and video of the holograms which can be shared with others even when they don’t have a HoloLens.
HoloLens also includes clicker -a Bluetooth accessory which lets you select, scroll, hold, and double-click during extended, interactive scenarios.
With all this, HoloLens can run for up to 2 to 3 hours on a single charge and has up to two weeks of stand-by time. It weighs merely 579 grams.

How to pre-order HoloLens Development Edition?
Interested developes can pre-order their set of HoloLens Development Edition starting from today and shipping will start from 30th Macrh.
Before a pre-order can be placed, a developer need to apply to be eligible for pre-orders by filling up a form. The application can be made on its dedicated website and approved developers will receive invitation to place order.
You need to be a member of Windows Insider program and living in U.S. or Canada.
